Wetstock Modernisation: Separate Forecourt Control, Leak Detection and Reconciliation

Wetstock control requires consistent measurement and an accountable investigation process. A controller upgrade can improve connectivity, but it cannot by itself prove that all differences between deliveries, sales and tank measurements have disappeared.

Keep three functions distinct

Veeder-Root describes CSLD as statistical leak testing that gathers suitable tank data during idle periods while allowing the site to remain open. Analysis: build an investigation trail

For a reconciliation review, align delivery records, dispenser totals and tank observations to defined time boundaries. Check units and the volume basis used in each record. Document gaps in telemetry and adjustments instead of silently treating missing observations as zero movement.

When a variance appears, distinguish a data-quality problem from a suspected physical loss. The operating procedure should identify the person responsible for investigation, the evidence required and the appropriate escalation path. Environmental and safety actions must follow the applicable site procedures and local requirements.

Upgrade against a supported equipment list

Create an inventory of dispensers, gauges, probes, interface modules and software versions. Require the integrator to confirm compatibility and the commissioning process. Generic advice to change line-bias resistors, loop wiring or firmware is inappropriate without the relevant equipment documentation and qualified personnel.

The acceptance exercise should include delivery recording, dispenser sales, alarm visibility, communications loss and reconciliation after service returns. Preserve a baseline so that any claimed improvement can be checked.

Measure the investment using site-specific maintenance calls, staff time, investigation outcomes and data completeness. Do not substitute a manufacturer’s general connectivity description for evidence of a particular variance reduction or payback period.
